Description
Antelope Island is a 42 square mile mile island of low mountains, grasslands, marshes, and sand dunes in the Great Salt Lake. It provides the best access to the lake. Though Antelope Island is relatively close to the dense population center of the Wasatch Front cities, it exhibits a real sense of remoteness and isolation.
There is a marina, visitor center and restaurant as well as some picnic areas, a swimming beach with showers and two primitive campgrounds.
It has white sandy beaches, a marina, covered picnic pavillions, and a campground. There is a very good network of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. A herd of bison roam the island, and pronghorn (which resemble antelope). Best of all are the great views out over the lake. Most days end with a spectacular sunset.
To get there, take Exit 332 (Antelope Drive) from I-15 in Layton.
