Globe is a mid-sized town of 7,000 people east of Phoenix. It boomed in the 1900's with the discovery of silver. The silver was quickly depleted, but abudant copper kept the town thriving.
Many of the mines still operate, but today Globe is known for the many recreational opportunities available in the national forests that surround the town. Hiking, mountain biking and camping are all popular as are boating and fishing on Roosevelt and Apache Lakes. There are also good seasonal whitewater rafting opportunities on the Upper Salt River near town. Globe's historic downtown is also of interest to travelers.
Globe is located 80 miles east of Phoenix along US Highways 60 and 70.
