Description

Grand Canyon Parashant's natural splendor provides a sense of solitude to those who venture into its isolated domain. Located on the edge of one of the most beautiful places on earth, the Grand Canyon, the Monument's expansive landscape encompasses a chronicle of natural and cultural history.

Camping and hiking in the Monument is an adventure with over a million acres to explore. Only primitive camping is available, there are no developed campgrounds within the Monument.

Practice Leave No Trace techniques at all times.

Camp in previously used sites along primary roads.

Do not camp within 1/4 mile of any water source including seeps, springs, earthen tanks, and wildlife catchments.

No toilets are available. Walk away from camp and dig a hole about six to eight inches deep - spread out toilet sites. Cover the hole with dirt when finished. Take toilet paper back to camp and deposit in camp garbage.

Water is not available so take a supplemental supply.

Always carry extra food, matches or a lighter, a signal mirror, whistle, and foul weather gear.

Be aware that cell phones do not work in most areas.

Leave a detailed itinerary and a return date with family or friends.

Basic Directions
Located in the northwest corner of Arizona. You must have the appropriate maps to find your way to and around the Monument. There are entry roads from Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. Plan your entrance point by your travel route. There are no paved roads or visitor services within the Monument's million-plus acres, so visitors need to be prepared by traveling with an appropriate high-clearance vehicle equipped with two full-sized spare tires.
