Description
Head of the Ditch Campground is located in a scenic valley approximately 1.5 miles west of historic Luna, New Mexico on US Highway 180. The campground is marked with a blue campground sign, not with a Forest Service campground sign. Water from the San Francisco River which runs through the campground is used for irrigation in Luna Valley. The campground is located at the head of the irrigation ditch which gives Head of the Ditch Campground its name. The campground has a large open area and shady campsites with pine, oak, cottonwood, and willow trees.

Additional Details
Head of the Ditch Campground fills up fast during the Luna Pioneer Days and Rodeo weekend (usually the third weekend of July).
This is a pack in/pack out area.
ATVs generally are allowed on the Forest but they must be licensed and users must follow all state laws regarding use. ATV use is not allowed in the campground.
There is a small store and restaurant in Luna. The restaurant is closed from November to spring. Alpine, AZ (west of the campground on US 180) also offers many amenities of a small town.
Many user defined campsites and user built rock fire pits.
3 developed sites suitable for self contained RV camping.
The campground offers access to Forest Road 882 which is a very rough dirt road going east to the NM-Arizona border.
Forest Road 882 may be used for hiking. The terrain is hilly and scenic.
There is a beaver dam on the creek running through the campground. Lewis'' Woodpeckers have been observed in the Luna area.
