Description

The cool shade of tall ponderosas and an overlook of Palisade Canyon located at the edge of Showers Point Group Campground make this forested area a popular place for groups to spend a weekend or an afternoon. In addition, one of the most dramatic overlooks in the Santa Catalinas, Showers Point, is within easy walking distance. From this towering bluff, views include the lower slopes of the Santa Catalina Range and the Santa Cruz Valley stretching toward Mexico. Tall, pyramid-shaped Mt. Wrightson of the Santa Rita Mountains stands prominent on the horizon.

For a closer look at the Santa Catalina backcountry, the Palisade Trail drops down the southwestern slopes of the mountain range to the popular Sabino Canyon Recreation Area. The upper trailhead for Palisade Trail is located 1/4 mile west on Organization Ridge Road.

The three group-campsites at Showers Point are well spread out over this spacious location and include large, leveled tent pads and ramadas.

Limit 25 people per site. Reservations only. 14-day stay limit. Make on-line reservations, or phone National Recreation Reservation Service at (1-877-444-6777). Do not call the District Office to make reservations.
