Although close to Phoenix, Wickenburg is the very definition of a small town. The air is clean, the people are very friendly, and the Sonoran Desert is a stunning backdrop.
Wickenburg has a long history and much of this history involves mining, the railroad, and the dude ranch, for Wickenburg was once the "Dude Ranch Capital of the World." And although Wickenburg is a very modern town, it holds its history close. Historic depots and mines are preserved, dude ranches from the old days still welcome new visitors.
Wickenburg also celebrates its natural side. The Sonoran Desert is indeed everywhere, and stands testament to the fact that deserts are hardly dead. Visit the Joshua Forest, especially when the Joshua trees are abloom, or walk by the unexpected oasis of the Hassayampa River.
Wickenburg is 60 miles northwest of Phoenix, Arizona.
